MONROE COUNTY LONGBEARDS CHAPTER AWARDS

Congratulations to Scott Goeddel, our chapter Chairman, who was presented the Marvin Henderson Memorial Award at the 2012 Illinois State Awards banquet. This award is presented annually by the Illinois Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation to an outstanding volunteer member with a passion for the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting tradition and who has true commitment to that purpose.  The Marvin Henderson Memorial Award is the most prestigious individual state
award given to a volunteer.

The award originated to memorialize a man for his unselfish commitment and lifelong support of the NWTF and it’s mission. Marvin Henderson affectionately named “Mountain Man” was a charter member of the Little Wabash Longbeards and a life member of the NWTF.  While not a wealthy man, Marvin gave generously of both time and effort to the cause of the NWTF. He passed away at an early age and his local chapter has set up a trust fund to maintain this annual award. It is presented every year to honor an Illinois volunteer member, who exemplifies Marvin Henderson’s attributes.

Scott has been an NWTF member since the mid 90’s and has been involved with his local chapter since it was organized.  Along with sharing his love of the great outdoors with his family, Scott shares his time, talent and dedication with the public by providing an outstanding annual banquet, conservation seed program for the Monroe County area and most of all has promoted the preservation of the hunting tradition by coordinating an outstanding Jakes Day event that not only is fun and educational, but passes on the traditions of responsible hunting and has great raffle prizes to boot. All of this is done from donations that Scott and his chapter have acquired throughout the year.

So the next time you see Scott, please congratulate him on this well deserved award.
